Dennis R. Holmes, MD, FACS

DENNIS R. HOLMES, MD, F.A.C.S. is an internationally-renowned Breast Surgeon specializing in the surgical treatment of breast cancer and non-cancerous breast conditions. As a noted leader in the management of breast cancer, Dr. Holmes is a sought-after authority on breast cancer surgery, nipple-sparing and skin-sparing mastectomy, cryoablation (tumor freezing), and radiation therapy.

LEADER. As an authority in the breast cancer community, Dr. Holmes serves as Board member of the American Society of Breast Diseases, Program Co-chairman of the National Consensus Conference on Women’s Health, Program Committee Member of the National Consortium of Breast Centers, and Education Committee Member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, where he is an examiner in the Breast Education and Self-Assessment Program, a certification program for breast surgeons. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

EXPERT. Dr. Holmes is the Chief Breast Surgeon and Medical Director of the Los Angeles Center for Women’s Health. He formerly held the positions of Chief Breast Cancer Surgeon, Breast Cancer Research Committee Co-Chair, and Breast Surgery Fellowship Program Director at the University of Southern California Kenneth Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. Widely respected by colleagues internationally, Dr. Holmes is regularly called upon to educate other breast surgeons throughout the U.S. and Asia on the optimal treatment of breast cancer.

INNOVATOR. Dr. Holmes has gained international acclaim for his pioneering research in intraoperative radiotherapy, an innovative type of breast radiotherapy that replaces the usual 5-6 week course of daily breast radiotherapy normally given after lumpectomy, with a single, 30-minute radiotherapy treatment administered during surgery at the time of lumpectomy. In addition to making breast radiotherapy more convenient, intraoperative radiotherapy reduces radiation side effects on the breast, skin, arm, heart and lungs; prevents radiation-related fatigue; and helps women get back to their normal lifestyles much more quickly. Dr. Holmes is also the author and Principal Investigator of two national clinical trials employing the use of cryoablation (tumor freezing) instead of surgery for treatment of breast cancer. In keeping with his penchant for forging new frontiers, Dr. Holmes is pleased to join Lifetime TV as co-host of Access Health, a new national TV program focusing on innovations in medical, fitness and nutrition.

ADVOCATE. What most distinguishes Dr. Holmes is the high level of satisfaction expressed by his many patients. Consistently, patients are relieved to find that Dr. Holmes is a warm, caring breast surgeon who possesses the experience, empathy, and patience to help each women find a breast cancer solution that suits her physically and emotionally, while providing the best possible cancer control.
