Rachel Berkowitz, PhD
Rachel Berkowitz, PhD is the founder and Executive Director for the Healing Center for Eastern and Western Medicine. This non-profit organization is geared to help underprivileged children and families with special needs. The Healing Center provides a comprehensive treatment for families afflicted with ADD, ADHD, Autism, and Cancer by combining techniques from Eastern and Western medicinal philosophy as well as spiritual components to the therapy of its members. The center provides patients with high-caliber doctors and professionals that have donated their time to change the lives of children and their families suffering from various disorders. The implementation of progressive Eastern techniques such as yoga, meditation, acupuncture, and psychotherapy provides these families with an integrative approach to the treatment of these individuals. In 1998 Dr. Berkowitz joined Cedars-Sinai Medical Group in Los Angeles, CA to focus on the treatment of patients suffering from various addictions food, body image and drug related. With a special background in eating disorders and trauma, Dr. Berkowitz works with affiliate hospitals such as UCLA to provide patients with group and individual therapy to treat anorexia and bulimia. Dr. Berkowitz worked very closely with Rabbi Levi Meir, PhD, at Cedars Sinai to counsel executives and celebrities with their relationships with employees and self-improvement and growth. Dr. Berkowitz is dedicated to helping families with children suffering from obesity coupled with diabetes. She is currently working to change legislation on early detection of diabetes and improved nutritional standards for all schools existing in the United States. In 2008, Dr. Berkowitz joined the Medical Advisory Board for the Breast Preservation Foundation as a psychological consultant and advocate for women suffering from breast cancer. Due to the success of the combined techniques of eastern and western philosophy to the treatment of her patients, Dr. Berkowitz continues to be a strong force in the medical world today by teaching other doctors and patients about her comprehensive approach to therapy.
